An Investigation of Usability of Brown Coal Fly Ash for Building Materials

Abstract: The Victoria State of Australia has the second largest reserves of brown coal on earth, representing approximately 20% of the worlds reserves, and at current use, could supply Victoria with its energy for over 500 years. Its combustion, annually, yields up to 1.3 million tonnes of fly ash, which is largely use for land-fills. Disposal of fly ash in open dumps cause massive environmental problems such as ground water contamination that may create various health problems. This study focuses on the usability of b… Show more

“…Compared to Portland cement, it has a slower hardening process, thus improving workability and durability [87]. Today, industrial cement manufacturers are increasingly using materials such as pozzolan, fly ash, and volcanic ash, to replace part of Portland cement, in order to reduce CO 2 emissions and the relative cost, and to improve the resistance to chemical attack by sulphates and sea water.…”

“…Secara umum fly ash mengandung SiO 2 dan CaO dalam kadar cukup besar. Fly ash kelas C (ASTM C618) memiliki kandungan SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , dan Fe 2 O 3 sekitar 50%, dan yang kelas F mencapai 70% [4].…”
