An Off-season Plyometric and Resistance Training Programme to Improve Vertical Jump Height in Adolescent Female Volleyball Players

Abstract: Plyometric training has shown to improve vertical jump height, but the design and implementation of a plyometric training programme for adolescents requires consideration of several variables as well as the time of the season. The purpose of this study was to implement a pragmatic programme that improves vertical jump height, and to monitor the effects of a 15 week off-season plyometric and resistance training programme on the vertical jump height in adolescent female volleyball players. Ten adolescent female … Show more

“…In other words, physiological adaptations seem to occur rapidly at the onset of a training program, but the rate of improvement declines as physiological systems become more adapted to the training stress. The second is the training contents since the preparatory and competitive periods, commonly focused on different physical fitness related to injury prevention and sports performance, which may enhance neuromuscular performances in different magnitudes and directions [ 39 , 53 , 54 , 55 ]. Overall, it is possible to assume that ISK responses depend on the participants´ training status, leg dominance, and angular velocity used for the ISK assessments.…”

“…Training is an effective method to improve physical fitness but there are various training approaches that can be even more beneficial as is the case with plyometric training [6] which can be performed on different types of surfaces [7]. However, it is necessary to take into account several variables to design and implement an effective plyometric training program [8]. Since a deep understa nding is required to understand this type of training and its effect on improvement in the physical condition of athletes [9].…”

“…For example, jumping height is a fundamental physical component to support the offense and defense techniques in volleyball games [20]. Furthermore, plyometric and resistance training programs improved vertical jump height [21]. However, other essential components could decide the team performance and achievement besides training programs.…”
