An Ontology-Based Framework for Authoring Tools in the Domain of Sustainable Energy Education

Abstract: This paper presents an ontology-based framework for the production of learning designs, focusing on the domain of sustainable energy education. An ontology of the sustainable energy development domain and educational model designed in compliance with widespread standards constitute the proposed framework to disprove the vagueness of “sustainable development” and enhance reusability and shareability of learning material respectively. The authors envisage this framework both as a means to support the authoring o… Show more

“…As a contribution to such an effort in terms of facilitating teachers to discover and reuse relevant Learning Objects (LOs) in order to construct learning designs in this knowledge area, a framework was introduced (Karetsos, Haralambopoulos, & Kotis, 2011). This framework was based on three ontologies (namely content, learning design and sustainable energy domain models).…”

“…These sets can support the organization of knowledge and the construction of learning designs in this knowledge area. In previous work (Karetsos et al, 2011), the authors specified such an ability, at a macro-level approach, organizing these sets as predefined templates that could facilitate the construction of learning designs. This paper offers a more detailed view of the conceptualization of ontologies attempting to encapsulate such questions in the structure of the existent ontology-based framework.…”
