An Ontology Integrating the Open Standards of City Models and Internet of Things for Smart-City Applications

Abstract: Smart city applications integrate the human, physical, and digital systems in a built environment with Internet of things (IoT) resources, city models, and domain models. However, existing methods for the integration are suitable for individual applications and lack interoperability among application modules. This study analyzed existing integration strategies and developed an ontology for integrating the data modeling standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) CityGML, IndoorGML, and SensorThings API. … Show more

“…The connection relationships between 'State' and 'Transition' characterize the indoor movement network in IndoorGML. We defined the State-Transition relationship using the Indoorgml-lite namespace [44] in this study. Significantly, Indoorgml-lite defines both the State and Transition nodes and the 'connects' predicate, indicating the link between these nodes.…”

“…In an ontology, classes are used to categorize and organize entities within a domain. The hierarchy of classes can form a classification system that defines hierarchical relationships between entities [36]. Properties are divided into object properties and data properties [37].…”

“…IoT is used in various fields today and has positive effects (HaddadPajouh et al, 2021). It is mainly used in the fields of health (Qadri et al, 2020), logistics (Günay et al, 2021), smart cities (Huang et al, 2022), agriculture (Al-Garadi et al, 2020), and industry (Manavalan & Jayakrishna, 2019). Another field where IoT technology is used is education (Zeeshan et al, 2022).…”
