An ontology to support the classification of learning material in an organizational learning environment

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this research was to evaluate whether ontology integrated in an organizational learning environment may support the automatic learning material classification in a specific knowledge area. Design/methodology/approach An ontology for recommending learning material was integrated in the organizational learning environment based on ontology. An experiment was performed with 15 experts and 84 learners. Experts and learners were asked to classify 30 learning material related to Software Eng… Show more

“…Проте, суттєвим недоліком OWL є те, що цю мову надзвичайно важко зрозуміти людям, які не мають навичок програмування. Для усунення даного недоліку пропонується використовувати природну мову з певними обмеженнямиконтрольовану природну мову (CNL), вона легко конвертується як в гіпертекст, так і на мову онтологій [1].…”

“…For its own survival and growth organizations will establish system of continuous learning, value and belief (Chiaburu & Tekleab, 2005; M.Dachner, E.Ellingson, A.Noe, & M.Saxton, 2021). Such organization encourage system of collective learning for sustainable development and competitive advantage (Craig & Allen, 2013;Valaski, Reinehr, & Malucelli, 2017).…”

“…Since the inception of ontologies as the main format for representing knowledge in the semantic web (Berners-Lee et al , 2001) many domain experts and organisations have engaged in their development, particularly in biomedical sciences (see, for example, https://bioportal.bioontology.org/) but also in other fields such as business, linguistic and engineering. In education, ontologies have been used to formalise instructional processes and learning designs (Knight et al , 2006), and to support classification of learning materials (Valaski et al , 2017). The role of ontologies in designing learning assessment has been less studied and only recently are techniques for ontology-based assessment starting to emerge.…”
