Crowd simulation explores crowd behavior in virtual environments, which has been extensively studied in many areas, such as safety and civil engineering, transportation, social science, and entertainment industry. In this paper, an improved potential¯eld method is proposed to achieve the real-time crowd simulation, which is composed of the global navigation with Dijkstra's algorithm and the potential¯eld based local navigation. First, a region separation is performed to divide the environment into a set of triangles, and thus a topological graph can be built with the triangles as vertices. Then a velocity-density model is introduced for improving the speed controlling mechanism and solving the \maximum speed dilemma" which means the velocity of an individual derived by potential¯eld will be stuck into the maximum due to the ill speed control. Since the movement of an individual in the crowd is in°uenced by the socio-psychological forces, the individuals' actions express the group attributes. In order to represent the group attributes in the crowd, the repulsive potential function is improved in this paper. Experiments have been carried out and the results show that the improved potential¯eld based method can simulate the crowd in real time and avoid the \maximum speed dilemma".

Resumo-Este artigo propõe um enfoque probabilístico para a análise do ambiente interferente envolvendo satélites geoestacinários visandoà elaboração de diagnósticos de arcos orbitais. Estes diagnósticos permitem a avaliação do potencial de cada posição orbital quantoà sua localização no arco orbital eàs dificuldades de coordenação entre redes de comunicação por satélite (processo de negociação bilateral para solucionar eventuais problemas de interferência). O enfoque proposto utiliza métricas que refletem tanto a necessidade quanto a dificuldade esperada no processo de coordenação e permite uma avaliação do congestionamento orbital com um esforço computacional muito inferior ao requerido por uma análise determinística detalhada. Exemplos numéricos ilustrando a aplicação da metodologia propostaà situações práticas são apresentadas. Palavras-chave:órbita de satélites geoestacionários, análise de interferências, enfoque probabilístico, diagnóstico de ocupação orbital Abstract-This paper proposes a probabilistic new approach to satellite interference analysis for the assessment of the geostationary-satellite orbit utilization. The analysis allows for the evaluation of the potential of any given orbital position in terms of both the need for and the difficulty of network coordination (bilateral negotiation aiming at the solution of eventual interference problems). Appropriate metrics, that reflect both aspects of the coordination process (need and expected difficulty) are defined and used in the proposed methodology. The probabilistic approach provides an effective evaluation of the GSO use and requires much less computer effort than those required by usual deterministic approaches. Numerical examples involving practical situations are presented and discussed.
