An Optimal Control Algorithm with Reduced DC-Bus Current Fluctuation for Multiple Charging Modes of Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Abstract: This paper presents a systematic structure and a control strategy for the electric vehicle charging station. The system uses a three-phase three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) rectifier to drive multiple three-phase three-level NPC converters to provide electric energy for electric vehicles. This topology can realize the single-phase AC mode, three-phase AC mode, and DC mode by adding some switches to meet different charging requirements. In the case of multiple electric vehicles charging simultaneously, a … Show more

“…Hence, the MSCC protocol has been used due to the high charge/discharge energy efficiency and short charging time [17][18][19][20]. In [21], a control strategy for EV charging was proposed based on a three-phase, three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) rectifier. The controller was optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA) to reduce the DC-bus current fluctuation in the level 1, level 2, and DC modes.…”

“…Although the majority of electrical energy is indeed generated by non-renewable energy sources, the trends are being directed towards the generation of energy with renewable energy sources (photovoltaic panels, wind generators, fuel cells) [4]. Electric vehicles are a solution that promises to reduce the damage to the environment, due to their sustainable characteristics described in [5,6]. Another aspect is the reduction of noise pollution because the electrical engine noise is almost imperceptible [7,8].…”
