An Overview of Device-to-Device Communications Technology Components in METIS

Abstract: As the standardization of network-assisted deviceto-device (D2D) communications by the 3 rd Generation Partnership Project progresses, the research community has started to explore the technology potential of new advanced features that will largely impact the performance of 5G networks. For 5G, D2D is becoming an integrative term of emerging technologies that take advantage of the proximity of communicating entities in licensed and unlicensed spectra. The European 5G research project Mobile and Wireless Commun… Show more

“…Moreover, at the intermediate relays in the communication path of a D2D multi-hop relay communication system, it takes non-negligible time to receive, process, and transmit data. Thus the more hops there are in the communication path, the larger latency in VNETs will be resulted in [13].…”

“…In the distributed discovery design, optimal resources and legitimate transmission power are apportioned with the consent of base station. However, this strategy involves complex signaling overhead and multifaceted nature of multiple transmitters to be composed [4]. In contrast, centralized device discovery design is adequately controlled by the base station and resources are managed by center system.…”
