An Overview of Medical Imaging Techniques for Knee Osteoarthritis Disease

Abstract: Osteoarthritis is the most common form of “Arthritis & Joint disease”. Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the fundamental causes of older and overweight individual’s sickness. It is the main cause of disability in adults. Mostly this disease occurs in people above 45 years of age, in which women suffer more as compared to men. it is basically damaged the Cartilage, because of which bones rub each other causing intense pain and inflammation. this gets thick and makes spurs at the edges. The knee Osteoarthritis i… Show more

“…Physical tests are relatively objective, and both scales and physical tests only evaluate the progress of knee function rehabilitation from a macro perspective. In comparison, medical imaging technology is a more accurate method to observe joint tissues at the microscopic level 43 . Moreover, motion capture systems can provide kinematic information.…”

“…Geometric, statistical and Zernike moment features were calculated and identified with a Random Forest (RF) and K‐NN classifier, attaining an accuracy of 0.879 and 0.888, respectively. An overview of medical image processing techniques for knee OA was presented by Vashishtha et al 13 An overview of various techniques when employed on different imaging modalities was discussed. Cartilage thickness was calculated and attained 0.998 accuracy using K‐NN which provided enhanced performance in dense regions 14 .…”

“…'Artho' means joint in Greek, and 'itis' indicates inflammation that is arthritis of the joints. [1] Due to this, bone rubbing results which causes pain, swollen knee, stiffness, and unable to move, bone spurs formation. [2] In India, knee OA is more prevalent above 40 years.…”
