The purpose of this study is to investigate which competencies are perceived importance by the project practitioners in order for them to perform accordingly towards achieving project objectives. At the same time, the study also allows the opportunity to evaluate their keenness on self-learning which is important for project practitioners to continuously enhancing their skills. Questionnaires are distributed at one of Malaysian Government Department, which is responsible for the construction of government infrastructure projects in the country. Total of 179 respondents gave their feedbacks during a training, a workshop and talk events. Six (6) types of competencies were measured. The findings indicate that three most important competencies perceived by project practitioners are Behavioral, Technical Generic and Generic competencies. On top of that, feedbacks on self learning elements shows that the project practitioners are agreeable and aware on the importance of learning and are willing to take up their own time to learn by themselves. This study revealed the behavioral competency is the most importance competency perceived by the project practitioners. With this information, the Department could plan the project practitioners’ development programs more effectively and drive the motivation to learn continuously. Effective learning creates skilled human resources who could withstand the competitive environment in the construction industry.

In the area of the construction sector, the primary concern is economic growth. There are many issues and challenges associated with it. The growth and rapid development of this industry put their players, mainly the construction firms feeling the heat by competing with each other. The main challenge is the completion period for a particular project. This study was done in Manila, Philippines, where Design and Build (D&B) method has gained much interest and considered very important today. The rise of new innovative systems saw the emergence of new factors in the construction industry that will become future adoption. This study focuses on factors affecting the successful completion period of the construction industry, whereby it is very crucial for the country's economic and market development. A quantitative research methodology was applied in this study. A total of 967 survey questionnaires sent out, and only 396 respondents fit to be analysed. Respondents involved were contractors, consultants, and developers. It was learned that critical success factors in project management play significant roles in driving projects to examine the determinants of success completion time of Design & Build construction projects. Findings from this study shall be used by the authority in drafting a policy guideline for future construction development. It is hoped that this study provides a better understanding of construction challenges for future undertaking.

The execution of housing construction projects for low-income populations in developing countries requires projects with low diversification, using quality materials and meeting project deadlines, qualified workforce are essential actions for the success of these projects. Thus, this work aims to simulate aggregate planning strategies in housing construction projects for low-income populations financed by the government. The methodology consisted of the simulation of four aggregate planning strategies (demand monitoring, constant workforce allowing for delays, constant workforce without delays and mixed) using the entire linear programming technique. The methodology used was a two-year case study in twelve civil construction projects for a civil construction company whose market segment is low-income housing with public funding. The chosen strategy with the lowest cost was the mixed strategy, which presented the lowest cost, with hiring employees and no layoffs. The aggregate planning simulation also did not show delays in the 12 projects, proving to be an efficient alternative for the planning management of companies that operate several projects at the same time.
