“…M&Q is also the fourth largest receiver of inputs from 'The manufacture of petroleum, chemical and non-metallic mineral products' (E04) (shown in Figure 6A). This is not surprising given that Tanzania produces non-metallic minerals (including construction and chemical minerals), natural gas, and coal, which are largely processed and consumed domestically [39,40]. Recalling from Figure 4 that 'The manufacture of metal products' (E05) is the topranked sector in terms of providing inputs to M&Q (i.e., M&Q's backward linkages), Figure 6D correspondingly shows that M&Q is the second largest destination for the outputs of 'The manufacture of metal products' (E05).…”

“…Actually, the limited capacity on the part of research and learning institutions in Tanzania to meet the demands of skills needed is considered to be the challenge facing the oil and natural gas sector in the country (PCCB, 2012). Presently, the technical part of the oil and natural gas industry is mainly practiced by foreign experts through the international oil companies (Bishoge et al, 2018c;Boma, 2013). The establishment of the National Oil Company (NOC) through the Petroleum Act 2015 should have been an eye-opener on the need of enhancing the required skills and ensure that the company is staffed with the majority of the local experts.…”

“…Evidence on record shows that commercial production of natural gas at Songosongo started in 2004, followed by Mnazi Bay in 2006 [ 48 ]. Both offshore and onshore gas extracted at Songosongo Island is transported to the Dar es Salaam Region through a pipeline [ 47 , [49] , [50] , [51] , [52] ]. These discoveries affected the livelihoods of adjacent gas-producing settlements immediately.…”
