An RSSI-based Wireless Sensor Network Localization Algorithm with Error Checking and Correction

Abstract: Abstract-This paper studies the wireless sensor network localization algorithm based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) in detail. Considering the large errors in ranging and localization of nodes made by the algorithm, this paper corrects and compensates the errors of the algorithm to improve the coordinate accuracy of the node. The improved node localization algorithm performs error checking and correction on the anchor node and the node to be measured, respectively so as to make the received s… Show more

“…The breakthrough in wireless sensor network (WSN) has made the use of the RSSI signal to become the main focus in range measurement by the researchers [1] either for industry or domestic application [2,3]. This technique integrates the wireless network with sensors and other embedded systems that can give valuable information [4] either for indoor [5][6][7][8] or outdoor environment [9,10]. The WSN using the RSSI technique also increase the mobility and the coverage of the sensor's area [11].…”

“…When the mobile nodes are static in nature then the node localization scheme does not consume more power but when the nodes are mobile in nature then they consume more energy as the node location has to be tracked continuously. Experimentally the RSSI is observed to be inconsistent even in a constrained and controlled environment [3]. But the LQI can effectively describe the error rate and when RSSI is combined with LQI then the distance estimation will be more accurate [4].…”
