An Unprecedented Class of Benzoyldiazenido‐Functionalized Polyoxometalates with Enhanced Antitumour Activities

Abstract: An unprecedented class of benzoyldiazenido-functionalized polyoxometalates, [Bu 4 N] 3 [Mo 6 O 18 (=N=NCOAr)] (Ar= Ph, 1; Ph-o-Cl, 2; Ph-m-Cl, 3; Ph-p-Cl, 4; Ph-o,p-Cl 2 , 5; Ph-p-Br, 6;Ph-m-NO 2 , 7; Ph-p-NO 2 , 8; Ph-p-OMe, 9), are prepared through the reactions of α-octamolybdate and the corresponding hydrazides in dry acetonitrile under reflux with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a dehydrating agent. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction structural analysis reveals that their anions demonstrate the typical st… Show more

“…For instance, a number of studies using a range of organoimido-and organobenzoyldiazenido-functionalised hexamolybdate Lindqvist-type POMs have shown significant inhibitory activity towards a range of human leucocythemia and breast cancer cell lines. [244][245][246] Dolbecq, Oldfield and co-workers also reported comparable trends in a series of bisphosphonate-polyoxomolybdate hybrids, 247,248 the most effective of which was complexed to the bisphosphonate-based drug zolendronate and showed promising activity against human sarcoma cells in a mouse xenograft, decreasing tumour volume by ca. 85% against the control whilst showing no adverse toxicity towards the mice.…”

“…It can not only combine the properties of organic ligands and POMs but also possibly result in new properties due to the conjugation between organic ligands and POMs ( Peng et al, 2004 ; Zhang et al, 2012 ). However, only a few efforts had been paid to the study on the derivatives of POMs modified by hydrazides ( Wang et al, 2017 ) and phenylhydrazine ( Kwen et al, 1999 ; Bustos et al, 2003 ). Hydrazides are one class of organic intermediates with various biological activities ( Majumdar et al, 2014 ).…”

“…For example, isoniazid has been used as a basic remedy for the therapy of tuberculosis during the past 70 years ( Longmore, 2007 ). We had reported a class of benzoyldiazenido-functionalized POMs, which demonstrate enhanced antitumor activities compared with its parent POMs and corresponding ligands ( Wang et al, 2017 ). In this research, we chose one kind of small POM platform, hexamolybdates ( POM-0 ), to be modified by a series of iodobenzyol hydrazides.…”
