“…In smears from liver aspirate microfilaria was found together with clusters of malignant cells (Adenocarcinoma) in Thyroid with follicular neoplasm and in pleural fluid with atypical cells. Association of filariasis with neoplasm was seen inmuchhigher number of cases reported by Jha et al Kaushal et al Microfilariae have been reported in association with neoplastic lesions such as hemangioma of liver, ewing's sarcoma of bone, squamous cell carcinoma of maxillary antrum, anaplastic astrocytoma of thalamus , low grade astrocytoma of C6-D1 spinal segment, cranipharyngioma of third ventricle, Nonhodgkin lymphoma, transitional cell carcinoma of bladder, follicular carcinoma of thyroid, seminoma of undescended testis, meningioma, intracranial hemagio blastoma, fibromyxoma, squamous cell and undifferentiated carcinoma of uterine cervix, carcinoma of pharynx, metastatic melanoma to bladder, leukemia, lymphangiosarcoma, carcinoma of pancreas, dentigerous cyst, carcinoma breast [37,38,42,[63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75].…”

“…Reddy et al6 reported two such cases in nodular lesions of the liver whereas Agarwal et al8 reported a case of microfilaria in cavernous hemangioma of the liver. There was another case report of microfilaria in liver associated with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma,9 and in other two cases, microfilariae were coexisting with primary hepatic malignancy 7, 10. It has been suggested by various authors that because these parasites circulate in the vascular and lymphatic systems, their appearance in tissue fluids and exfoliated surface material would possibly occur only under conditions of lymphatic and vascular obstruction causing extravasation of blood and release of microfilaria into the blood circulation 11.…”

“…There have been reports of single or small number of cases of microfilaremia at various sites as bone marrow, breast, thyroid, lymph node, bronchial aspirates, pleural fluid, pericardial fluid, and hydrocoel fluid 4, 5. Liver is another extremely rare site from which microfilaria has been isolated 6–10. Till date, to best of authors' knowledge, six cases of microfilaria in FNA cytology of liver has been reported.…”

“…3,7 They were reported in a case of metastases to the liver originating from pancreatic adenocarcinoma. 8 Reports of their association with lymph node aspirations are available. 1,2 In our search in PubMed, reports on microfilariae in lymph node aspirates associated with gastric carcinoma were not found.…”
