An unusual case of collagenous gastritis in a middle- aged woman with systemic lupus erythromatosis: a case report

Abstract: IntroductionCollagenous gastritis is a rare histopathologic disease. It is characterized by marked subepithelial collagen deposition with associated inflammatory infiltrate. It is considered an uncommon disease among the general population. Collagenous gastritis without colonic involvement is an extremely rare disease. It is not known to be associated with systemic lupus erythromatosis. This is the first report of this type of association.Case presentationWe present a 47-year-old woman from southeast Asia with… Show more

“…Pediatric cases of CG generally present with severe iron deficiency anemia and/or recurrent abdominal pain ( 22 24 , 41 ), whereas diarrhea and malabsorption are the predominant symptoms in adults, presumably linked to the frequently observed concurrent intestinal involvement ( 32 , 46 , 49 ). Associated immune-mediated comorbidities, such as celiac disease and type 1 diabetes, have been reported in both pediatric ( 22 24 , 26 , 31 ) and adult ( 3 5 , 23 , 24 , 45 , 47 , 50 ) patients. CG is believed to be a chronic disease, and there is currently no effective treatment ( 46 ).…”

“…Therefore, vegetable peptones, with their antiskin aging effects by inducing collagen production and cell proliferation may be useful as an agent for attenuating skin aging. However, overproduction of collagen often induces inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic sclerosis [48,49]. Therefore, in addition to investigating the efficacy of the vegetable peptones in in vivo models, further studies on the safety of the vegetable peptones are necessary.…”
