An Unusual Case of Gastric Cancer Presenting with Breast Metastasis with Pleomorphic Microcalcifications

Abstract: Breast metastasis from gastric carcinoma is rare. We present a case of right breast mass with microcalcification in which the diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma from the stomach was made after a biopsy. Pleomorphic microcalcification was noted in the ill-defined breast mass, which is a rare feature in breast metastasis. Since breast metastasis usually signifies advanced metastatic disease, differentiating primary breast cancer from metastasis is important for appropriate treatment.

“…In the literature, cases that associate gastric cancer with muscle metastases are rare, and most of the cases described have a histological profile of SRCC and are associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. Several other unusual sites of metastasis of gastric cancer have been reported in the literature such as pancreatic, cutaneous, parotid, gingival, mammary, testicular, uterine and fallopian tube metastasis [8,9].…”

“…Gastric cancer rarely metasta-sizes to skeletal muscle and most cases of muscle metastasis are associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis. In addition to skeletal muscle, many other unusual sites of metastasis from gastric carcinoma have been reported in the literature – pancreatic, cutaneous, parotid, gingival, breast, testicular, uterine, and fallopian tube metastases [ 7 11 ]. Because of their rarity and particular clinical characteristics, these metastases are challenging to diagnose and are frequently part of a widespread metastatic disease.…”
