An unusual metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma: Biceps brachii muscle

Abstract: Skeletal muscle metastasis of nonsmall cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is a rare occurrence, and the most effective treatment modality is currently unknown. In this case presentation, we report a patient with NSCLC who underwent palliative radiotherapy for biceps muscle metastasis of NSLCS. Our case was a 49-year-old woman who had lung adenocarcinoma with biceps muscle metastasis. She had been followed up for 2 years due to Stage IV lung adenocarcinoma from whom a biopsy was taken from a painful mass in right arm … Show more

“…The histological appearance of tumor foci was very similar in the different animals, irrespective of the age of the mice (Figure 1c). It is worth noting that between the 45th and the 50th week of age, 25% of K-Ras G12D mice develop extrathoracic metastases (Figure 1d) in the liver, skeletal muscle, and stomach, which are the same sites of cancer-cell dissemination found in patients affected by NSCLC [78,79].…”

“…If drug-resistant pain from muscle metastases persists, surgical resection would be appropriate depending on the number, site, and dimensions, which are independent of the histologic type. Treatment for muscle metastasis is often palliative, and the presence of skeletal muscle metastasis is associated with poor survival, usually less than one year [ 10 , 12 , 13 ].…”

“…The most commonly accepted hypothesis supports the idea of spread via vasculature. It suggests that tumor embolism is the cause of metastasis in the muscles [ 6 ]. The most common sites of skeletal muscle metastasis of lung cancer are the thigh, iliopsoas, and paraspinous muscles.…”
