An unusual presentation of a nodular hidradenoma: A case report and review of the literature

Abstract: Nodular hidradenoma is a rare benign adnexal tumor. It is most frequently encountered in the head and neck region, trunk, and extremities. This tumor exhibits a high recurrence rate, and an association with malignancy. Many names have been used to describe this pathology. We report the case of a nodular hidradenoma in a 30-year-old moroccan woman who presented with a 2-year history of a swelling in her right preauricular region. Histological examination revealed the typical appearance of a nodular hidradenoma. T… Show more

“…Nodular hidradenoma is an uncommon benign epithelial neoplasm arising from eccrine sweat gland that usually appears in adults and extremely rare in children. NH lacks any distinctive clinical features but is usually present as a solitary, well‐circumscribed, slowly growing, nodular lesion most commonly located over the head and trunk 1 . Due to its clinical heterogeneity, dermoscopy could make easier the diagnosis of NH.…”

“…NH lacks any distinctive clinical features but is usually present as a solitary, well-circumscribed, slowly growing, nodular lesion most commonly located over the head and trunk. 1 Due to its clinical heterogeneity, dermoscopy could make easier the diagnosis of NH. The most common dermoscopic pattern is composed of a homogeneous pink area, white shiny lines, and vascular structures with linear, dotted, and hairpin vessels.…”

Though limb as site of tumor has been reported in literature, incidence is sparse, comprising approximately 1% of all skin tumors.…”

“…5 Genetically, t(11;19) translocation has been reported in a few cases of hidradenoma. 4,5 Recurrence is common, up to 10%, mostly due to inadequate excision and sprouts of tumor tissue located between dermis and subcutaneous tissue, with possibility of malignant transformation being reported in up to 7% of all cases. 10 These factors highlight the need for complete surgical excision with wide surgical margins and clinical follow-up.…”
