Anaerobic demethylation of guaiacyl-derived monolignols enabled by a designed artificial cobalamin methyltransferase fusion enzyme

Abstract: Lignin-derived aryl methyl ethers (e.g. coniferyl alcohol, ferulic acid) are demethylated under anaerobic conditions using a cobalamin dependent fusion enzyme, which combines the cobalamin carrier protein and the methyltransferase.
