Abstract

The anthropometric and nutritional assessment of individuals with lipodystrophic syndrome is substantially important, regarding the peculiarities of their body distribution, in addition to metabolic co-morbidities that are associated with this pathology. The present study aimed to evaluate anthropometric indicators and nutritional status of people living with HIV/AIDS using antiretroviral therapy. Methods: This study covered 63 individuals of both sexes, who were undergoing outpatient care in the city of Belém-PA and who agreed to voluntarily participate in the study. Results: There was a prevalence of males, where the most prevalent clinical form of lipodystrophy was mixed, followed by the lipodystrophic and lipohypertrophic forms, and mean values of BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference and circumference were also observed. neck tightness, above the average cutoff points for the Brazilian adult population. Conclusion: The study enabled the expansion of knowledge about the nutritional profile of these individuals, as well as an inference for subsequent studies of diet therapy and nutritional education, in order to mitigate the impacts of the tendency to gain fat and potential cardiovascular risks observed.
