Análisis Argumentativo y Auto-regulación de Aprendizaje en estudiantes universitarios del ámbito educativo

Abstract

This study aims to identify the relationship between ability to argue and self-regulated learning in their two respective dimensions (learning strategies and motivation strategies), and gender differences. We worked with 250 university students of the educational field, and information was gathered using the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire and the Argumentative Analysis Scale from the Halpern test, Critical Thinking Assessment Using Everyday Situations. Significant differences were found in favor of women in learning strategies, although the effect size was small in most of them, bigger in Organization variable. The greatest difference in favor of the group of men was registered in the variable Reasoning Analysis. Furthermore, the relationship between the self-regulated variables and argumentative skill were characterized by being modest and negative, suggesting independence between both concepts. Este estudio pretende identificar la relación existente entre capacidad de argumentación y auto-regulación de aprendizaje en sus dos dimensiones (estrategias de aprendizaje y de motivación), y analizar las diferencias de género. Se trabajó con 250 estudiantes universitarios del ámbito educativo, y se recogió información a través del Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire y de la escala de análisis argumentativo del test Halpern Critical Thinking Assessment Using Everyday Situations. Se encontraron diferencias significativas a favor de las mujeres en las estrategias de aprendizaje, aunque con un tamaño del efecto pequeño en la mayoría de ellas, siendo mayor en la variable Organización. La diferencia mayor a favor del grupo de hombres se registró en Análisis argumentativo. Por otra parte, las relaciones entre las variables auto-reguladoras y la capacidad argumentativa se caracterizaron por ser modestas y negativas, sugiriendo independencia entre ambos constructos.
