This study aims to reveal the discourse practices in the narrative of the Chinese Rebellion in the Indonesian History textbook. Having long disappeared from Indonesian historiography, the Chinese-Javanese alliance against the VOC, often called Geger Pacinan (1740-1743), has reappeared in history textbooks. Its presence needs to be studied to understand the discourse practices that are to be conveyed by the narratives that are constructed. This study's subject was the Chinese Rebellion text in the Indonesian History textbook for class XI SMA based on the 2013 Curriculum published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in 2017. The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) method, according to Teun A. van Dijk, was used to analyze the dimensions of the text, social cognition, and the social context of the narratives that are the research subject. The result is that the report in the text dimension does not present the Chinese role through the history of the event as a whole. In the size of social cognition, it is found that there is a potential to strengthen the practice of discourse, which leads to the marginalization of the Chinese role. The social context dimension has not entirely shifted from the New Order paradigm, which harbored stereotypes against the Chinese. In conclusion, the text of the Chinese Rebellion requires the teacher’s role to make the deconstruction process in learning history meaningful for students, especially in internalizing the value of diversity for national integration.

Creole is an interesting linguistic phenomenon in Indonesia. One of them is the Tansi language, which comes from Sawahlunto and is used by coal workers from various regions in Indonesia such as Minangkabau, Malay, Java, China, Sundanese, Bali, Madurese and Bugis. In this society, Tansi Creole not only functions as a means of communication, but also reflects cultural identity and diversity. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to systematically describe the facts and characteristics of the data collected, in which the speech used by the community in Lembah Segar subdistrict. The aim of this study is to analyze the Tansi Creole language used by the community in Lembah Segar subdistrict. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The results of the study showed that the Tansi Creole language not only plays a role as a means of daily communication, but also becomes a symbol of cultural unity and diversity in Sawahlunto. Therefore, the Tansi Creole language is not only a linguistic heritage, but also a local identity for Sawahlunto society. History as a comprehensive actualization of the past will be able to revive the spirit of struggle to defend shared values if it is written well, showing the scientific and beautiful sides at the same time. History is written as a story and still maintains the beauty of its language, even though it is assembled from sources that have gone through scientific processing. Therefore, this study discusses historicism as a study of science and art. The aim is to explain the characteristics of history as science and art and the differences between history as science and art. The results of the study show that the characteristics of history as a science are that it is empirical, has an object, has a theory, has generalizations, and has a method. Meanwhile, history as an art has characteristics, namely: history requires intuition, requires imagination, and requires language style. Furthermore, the difference between history as a science and art is that history as a science prioritizes a rational, empirical, and temporary nature. However, history can also use literary works as sources so that they can help with interpretation and imagination.
