“…Previous studies carried out in NAV have described how trace metal concentrations in its sediments have become bioavailable to marine species (Páez-Osuna and Osuna-Martínez, 2015), including those of commercial interest (Páez-Osuna and Osuna-Martínez, 2015;Góngora-Gómez et al, 2018;Delgado-Alvarez et al, 2019). In the NAV, one of the most important artisanal fisheries is the blue swimming warrior crab (Callinectes bellicosus) which is exported to international markets at up to 13,000 tons year −1 (Ortega- Lizárraga et al, 2020).…”

“…Although adult seahorses are recognized as having few predators due to their low nutritional value (Lourie, Pollom and Foster 2016), crabs and large pelagic fish are considered predators (Kleiber et al 2011; Ternes, Gerhardinger and Schiavetti 2016). Direct observations of seahorses with shorter tails also suggest constant partial predation by crabs (Rosa et al 2005), especially in Topolobampo and southeastern Gulf of California, where it is an important fishery resource (Ortega-Lizárraga et al 2020). Therefore, predation studies on seahorses by crabs might be of interest in future research.…”
