“…The results for perceived social support suggest that it might be related negatively to burnout scores (Aranda et al, 2004), with a certain degree of involvement in stress control, and adopting adequate coping behaviors (Arrogante et al, 2016;Hatamipour et al, 2017;Scheurer et al, 2012;Stevens et al, 2013). As in the study by Kim (2009), direct involvement of the role of self-efficacy in developing burnout was not corroborated by our data, even though it had a relationship with social support (Simón et al, 2017) and emotional intelligence (Gharetepeh et al, 2015;Zhu et al, 2016). Nevertheless, in the mediation analysis proposed, the data extracted suggest a mediating role of self-efficacy in the effect exerted by social support on burnout.…”

“…The results showed that social support was an important predictor of emotional performance and, therefore, of exhaustion, while self-efficacy does not seem to be a significant predictor. In recent studies, positive relationships have been found between general self-efficacy and emotional intelligence (Gharetepeh, Safari, Pashaei, Razaei, & Bagher, 2015) and also with perceived social support (Simón et al, 2017) in students of different health degrees/diplomas. The positive relationship between self-efficacy and emotional intelligence and the benefits to communication skills improvement was also confirmed in samples of nursing professionals (Zhu, Chen, Shi, Liang, & Liu, 2016).…”

“…The results of this study have important practical implications. On one hand self-esteem should be emphasized as a fundamental personal construct for the health and general wellbeing of nursing professionals [12,19]. On the other, the relevance of healthy living habits, such as physical exercise directed at intrinsic goals and good eating behavior should be underlined, because of their effects on physical and emotional health of workers and the work environment [5,4].…”

“…On the contrary, low levels of self-esteem have been associated with depressive symptoms [13], anxiety [14], suicidal ideation [15], eating disorders [16] and violent behavior [17]. In brief, our overall self-assessment determines the way we are, the way we perceive the world and relate with others, and therefore, influences our success in important facets of life [18,19]. According to the World Health Organization [20], nurses represent the largest group of healthcare professionals, but just because they know the importance of activities and behaviors that promote health, this does not mean they have healthier living habits [21].…”

“…Self-esteem is a multi-dimensional construct referring to an individual's evaluation of their own worth [11]. Somehow, self-esteem determines the way we are and our social behavior, so its relevance stems from the effects it has on individuals and different results in their lives [12]. For example, high levels of self-esteem are related to higher satisfaction in interpersonal relations and at work [13], physical and psychological wellbeing [14], and academic performance [15] and effective management of 9 of stress and coping adequately in conflict situations [16].…”
