“…The VO 2 max values recorded from the incremental treadmill test in our study are similar to those obtained in other studies that analyzed racket sports with physiological characteristics very close to badminton, such as squash [14,15] or tennis [29]. The VO 2 max for the Spanish badminton players of this study was lower than reported for elite badminton players (range from 55 to 62 mlkg -1 min -1 ) measured during graded treadmill tests [7,[30][31][32][33][34][35]. Nevertheless, VO 2 max values in the present study are within the values reported for internationally ranked women badminton players by Faude et al [32] (50.3 ± 4.1 mlkg -1 min -1 ) assessed with a graded treadmill test or the values reported for elite English singles men players by Alcock and Cable [36] (50.6 ± 4.6 mlkg -1 min -1 ) predicted from a multistage 20-meter shuttle-run.…”

“…This implies that in all cases, including the longest points, the ratio of strokes per time is around 1.1–1.2, below findings of other studies in girls showing 0.5–0.9 (Abian-Vicen et al, 2013; Abián et al, 2014; Gawin et al, 2015). These data are very revealing since, as indicated by several authors, the intensity of badminton involves playing around 90% of the time at the maximum HR (Álvarez et al, 2016; Bisschoff et al, 2016) so it is observed that it is not only necessary to reach the competition in good fitness but, as the championship progresses, the execution times and stroke volume tend to be higher, mainly in the EP and at key moments such as Set 3. Therefore, this indicates a very important change in men’s and women’s singles at the quantitative level between the GP and the EP, where Set 3 is key to sports performance.…”

“…The high values of the FC may be characteristics of the game. It requires efforts of high intensity and short duration that generate a high level of stress, with the consequent stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system and as a consequence the increase of HR ( Ramos Álvarez et al, 2016 ) In addition, all the load is distributed in the different muscle groups and in all body systems, therefore, they create an important biological reserve in high performance ( Stovba et al, 2020 ). In table tennis, the values found in this study suggest could be related to the characteristics of the game, explosive and very fast ( Torre et al, 2022 ).…”

“…Additionally, the anthropometric characteristics of the players of each sport is another variable to considered. In badminton, according to the study conducted by Ramos Álvarez et al (2016) women are ectomorphs and men mesoform. In padel, as stated by Pradas de la Fuente et al (2015a) the anthropometric profile in women is endosomesomemorphic, because they present a greater development of skeletal muscle than fat.…”
