Abstract: SUMMARYIn the last decades, forest fires have been a concern in different regions of the world, especially by increased occurrences product of human activities and climate changes. In this study the spatio-temporal trends in the occurrence and area affected by fire in the Maule region during the period 1986-2012 were examined. We use the Corporación Nacional Forestal fire database, whose records were spatially represented by a grid of 2x2 km. The occurrence was stable during the analyzed period with an average… Show more

“…As a consequence, the increase in fire activity in these regions—including the burnt of rural–urban interfaces of several town and cities—has been closely associated with the accumulation of high, flammable, and continuous fuel load of forest plantations (Peña and Valenzuela , Carmona et al. , Díaz‐Hormazábal and González ).…”

“…The spatial analysis is a technique that provides useful tools to assess forest fires, their causes and consequently the trends of these incidents (Díaz-Hormazábal andGonzález 2016, Simental andPompa 2016). Particularly, it is possible to analyze patterns of spatial distribution, allowing researchers to evaluate hypotheses on whether a phenomenon observed follows a random or correlated territorial distribution (Ávila-Flores et al 2010a).…”
