Algebra is known as a concept that is not only difficult to learn but also difficult to teach properly. Moreover, during the pandemic, learning was carried out online and many studies stated that online learning is not as effective as direct learning (face-to-face). The composition of function is one of the concepts in algebra where errors are often found. This study aims to analyze student errors on the concept of composition of functions in online learning from the perspective of AVAE categories (ARITH, VAR, AE, and EQS). To identify these errors, the researcher used a qualitative research method in which the data collection was done by giving written assignments to 25 high school students of grade X at one of the high schools in Sumedang. Some of the errors that were found in this study include errors in using commutative property, in addition operation (ARITH), students limitations in mastering the various roles of literal symbols (VAR), students not being able to decipher the order in algebraic expressions must be processed (AE), and students make mistakes because they ignore the form of equality in algebra (EQS). These errors that were found in this study can be used as a reference to identify more about learning obstacles that are felt by students which cause them to make errors. Pembelajaran matematika banyak tidak disukai oleh siswa dikarenakan minatnya belajar matematika dan kurangnya pemahaman siswa terhadap konsep dasar matematika. Dalam proses belajar matematika, baik itu soal latihan, pekerjaan rumah, kuis atau ujian, siswa sering mengalami kesalahan atau kelalaian dalam menyelesaikan masalah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika pada fungsi komposisi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teori kesalahan yang di pilih adalah teory watson Subjek penelitiannya yaitu siswa XI TKJ SMK Minhajut Thullab berjumlah 10 siswa. Mereka dipilih dengan teknik purposeful sampling, dimana subjek ini adalah subjek yang mendapat materi pada matematika yaitu materi Fungsi Komposisi. Proses pengumpulan informasi dicoba dengan membagikan siswa soal uji serta wawancara. Analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil riset ini bisa dikatakan kesalahan siswa dalam guna komposisi penyelesaian permasalahan matematika, partisipan didik berkemampuan besar lagi serta rendah melaksanakan kesalahan yang sama ialah kesalahan dalam membongkar soal, menganalisis soal, serta kesalahan dalam rumus.

“…Menurut (Wahyuddin, 2016) ada beberapa faktor yang harus dimiliki siswa agar memperoleh hasil belajar yang baik yaitu kemampuan dalam menyelesaikan soal meliputi: kemampuan menuliskan aspek yang diketahui, kemampuan menuliskan aspek yang ditanyakan, kemampuan membuat model matematika, kemampuan menyelesaikan model matematika, dan kemampuan menjawab pertanyaan soal. There are still many students who have errors in solving math problems, namely the composition function. This study aims to describe the average percentage of students who make mistakes in solving compositional function questions and to describe the criteria for student error rates based on the types of errors, namely conceptual, principle, and operational errors. This type of research is qualitative research. The research subjects were students of class XI Accounting at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pringsewu with the object of research being student errors in solving math problems. Data collection techniques using tests and interviews. The analysis in this study uses the percentage technique, and the validity of the data using triangulation techniques. The results of this study indicate that students make conceptual errors of 43% on the medium criteria, the principle error of 44% on the medium criteria, and 60% operating errors on the high criteria.
