The present article describes a methodology that combines frame analysis and narrative structure analysis in research into the journalistic handling of information. To determine the validity of this combined methodology, we examined media coverage of the Catalan independence rally of 11 September 2013 by six Spanish newspapers. The results indicate that this combined methodology brought to light findings that would not have been obtained by each technique used in isolation. This approach-to our knowledge, novel-contributed to a deeper and multidisciplinary analysis that shed light on patterns reflecting relationship between frames and narrative structures.
