Water is useful for supplying household, industrial, and agricultural needs. The availability of water supports food security and decent life. The process of sustaining water resources requires conservation, which is in line with sustainable development goals. The Keyang sub watershed is one of the catchment areas of the Upstream Madiun River, located in East Java. The development of agriculture land in Keyang sub watershed increases the number of disasters. The Central Statistics Office of Ponorogo Regency recorded 24 floods, 11 drought disasters, and 42 landslides in Keyang sub watershed during 2020. Floods and drought disasters in the same location show strong fluctuations in water resources, so Keyang sub watershed requires water conservation actions. The aim of this study is to analyze priority locations for water conservation. Indicateurs de Ruissellement Intense Pluvial (IRIP) is a method for determining water conservation priority locations. IRIP divides surface runoff vulnerability area into three types: generation area, transfer area, and accumulation area. Each area requires different adaptations to conservation techniques. The result shows that Keyang sub watershed has 4.96% strong potential surface runoff generation area. This priority area is suitable for wetland development, agroforestry, and sustainable agriculture. Then, Keyang sub watershed has 0.03% strong potential area of surface runoff transfer, this area is compatible with prevention of erosion and landslides. Keyang sub watershed has 0.63% very strong potential and 18.42% strong potential for surface runoff accumulation area. Accumulation area appropriate for developing flood mitigation strategies.

Forest fires have become a vital issue causing various hydro-meteorological disasters. Many parties have carried out efforts. This study aimed to analyze the impact of land covers due to reforestation on infiltration rate and other soil physical properties related to hydrological conditions. The research was conducted in the Cempaka Forest area. There are four observed land covers, i.e., Timber Forest Products (TFP), Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP), Pine, and Shrub. The results showed that land cover significantly affected the infiltration rate (p <0.05). The infiltration rate of Pine was not significantly different from NTFP but significantly different from TFP and Shrubs. The infiltration rate of Pine, NTFP, TFP, and Shrub land cover was 76.2 cm hr-1, 48.1 cm hr-1, 32.7 cm.hr-1, and 40.0 cm hr-1, respectively. The infiltration correlated with soil bulk density at two depths (0-15 cm and 16-30 cm) with r values of 0.614 and 0.595, respectively. Infiltration rate also significantly correlated with water content at pF 0 and pF 2.5 in the second soil depth. Additionally, soil bulk density is correlated with soil particle density with r = 0.621. Soil particle density also correlated with clay content with r equal to 0.726.

Coffee plants (Coffea sp.) are among the most popular plantation crops for farmers in Wajak District. However, the soil condition in Wajak District is dominated by sandy soil, which can trigger soil sensitivity to high erosion potential. A mitigation effort for the declining of coffee production in the Wajak District can be made through the estimation of the soil erodibility index. This study aimed to suspect the soil erodibility index and obtain the relationship of soil erodibility index to coffee production on smallholder coffee plantations in Wajak District, Malang Regency. The methods of determining land boundaries with land map units (SPL) were land use, soil type, and slope. The parameters used were soil texture (M), organic matter (a), structure (b), and permeability (c) to determine erodibility, as well as coffee beans for coffee production analysis. Statistical analysis of data was in the form of correlation tests and data regression tests. The results of the data analysis showed that the highest wet weight of coffee fruit was found in SPL 8 with plantation land use, Typic Hapludands soil type and land slope of 8-15%. The wet weight value of coffee fruit at SPL 8 is 2.18 t ha-1 with an erodibility value of 0.37. While the lowest wet weight of coffee beans was found in SPL 2 with moor land use, Andic Eutrudepts soil type and land slope of 8-15%. The average wet weight value of coffee beans at SPL 2 was 0.12 t ha-1 with an erodibility value of 0.26.
