Analysing defect inflow distribution of automotive software projects

Abstract: Defects are real and observable indicators of software quality that can be analyzed and modelled to track the quality and reliability of software system during development and testing. A number of software reliability growth models (SRGMs) have been introduced and evaluated which are based on different family of distributions such as exponential, Weibull, Non-Homogeneous Poisson Process etc. There exist no standard way of selecting the most appropriate SRGMs for given defect data and further the distribution o… Show more

“…There are studies that reveal the best-fitted models for reliability in some types of projects. In [6] researchers investigated the distribution of defect inflow in automotive domain projects which could aid in finding the best-fitting SRGMs. This work presents that selecting the appropriate model is the most challenging part of the forecast.…”

“…Based on the accumulation of studies on the initial activities of the schema, we hypothesize that the studies in question are primarily concerned with the development of new SPL rather than the long-term evolution of the product line. For example, architecture conformance checking related activities required to prevent architecture erosion in the long term are underrepresented in the studies: only four studies (P72 [44], P100 [49], P365 [65], P493 [69]) can be found which our researchers have mapped to this appropriate fields. Remarkably few studies address the product specific development cycle (application engineering) and only study P72 [44] exclusively addresses the product specific development cycle.…”

Remarkably few studies address the product specific development cycle (application engineering) and only study P72 [44] exclusively addresses the product specific development cycle. One reason for this could be that no specific methods and techniques are required for the product specific development cycle and, as in the classic SPL approach (cf.…”
