Analysing fluid-structure interaction with CFD and FEA on a marine double-wall LNG piping system

Abstract: In this study, the interaction of fluid-structure with Ansys Fluent and Structural was analysed on a double-wall LNG piping system in a marine ship. In terms of simulations, the inner tube of the double-walled tube on the TSR-18008 ship designed by SU Ar-Ge Dizayn ve Mühendislik A.Ş. is considered. Two different simulations were made; the first analysis was a computational fluid dynamics analysis and the results obtained from this were imported into the finite element analysis also known as structural analysis… Show more

“…The ABS Guidance Notes on Thermal Analysis [19] recommend using either analytical models or finite element (FE) models that assume steady-state conditions. Alternatively, Cambaz et al [20] performed a transient heat transfer FE analysis, demonstrating that temperature variations at the same point over two days are less than 1%.…”

“…The average skewness of the generated mesh is 0.2014. Mesh quality in the range of 0 to 0.25 on the scale shared by Ansys is defined as "Excellent" [28][29][30][31][32]. The average orthogonal quality, which is the second quality indicator, is 0.79728.…”

“…After the start of the cutting process, the end mill cutter rotates to cut the workpiece along its length. The quality scale of these two parameters is given in Tables 1 and 2 [28][29][30][31][32]. The study done can be categorized as groove cutting and side cutting.…”

“…In meshing, because of the grid quality and quantity ascertaining computation time and results, a hexahedral grid type was chosen in the prediction of results. The average skewness rate range recommended by Ansys is known to be less than 0.95 [25][26][27]. The mean skewness value for the simulation is 0.23, which is described as "Excellent" for Ansys.…”
