“…These phenomena have caused human fatalities (Barredo, 2007; Diakakis et al, 2019; Faccini, Luino, Paliaga, Sacchini, & Turconi, 2015; Gaume et al, 2009; Gaume et al, 2016; Guzzetti, Stark, & Salvati, 2005; Jonkman & Kelman, 2005; Vinet, Lumbroso, Defossez, & Boissier, 2012), noteworthy economic losses (Barrera, Llasat, & Barriendos, 2006; Boithias et al, 2017; Diakakis et al, 2019; Hooke, 2016; Lara, Saurí, Ribas, & Pavón, 2010) and other significant impacts that are associated with the human socioeconomic activity. In Greece, as in the rest of Mediterranean area, the impact of flash floods has increased, because of the urban sprawl (Angelakis et al, 2020; Diakakis et al, 2019; Faccini et al, 2018; Jodar‐Abellan et al, 2019; Marafuz, Rodrigues, & Gomes, 2015; Myronidis & Ioannou, 2019), which resulted in the significant change of hydraulic characteristics of streams and floodplains (Diakakis et al, 2019; Kastridis & Stathis, 2020; Segura‐Beltrán et al, 2016). Flash floods are highly intense phenomena that occur unexpectedly in a short time period, even in the case that the watershed is considerably covered by forest.…”
