Analysis and Control of a Modular Multilevel Cascaded Converter-Based Unified Power Flow Controller

Abstract: This paper presents a novel configuration for a unified power flow controller (UPFC) comprising a modular multilevel cascaded converter (MMCC) with a full-bridge inverter. The MMCC has one end of each phase-leg shunt-connected to the transmission line. The other end connects in parallel to the primary terminals of a series line transformer, and the ac output terminals of a full-bridge dc-ac inverter. The submodules in the MMCC are full-bridge flying capacitor converters. This UPFC is compared to another type o… Show more

“…To preserve the appropriate quantity of scrap steel transition of power and arc stability, examinations of EAF and UPFC calculation and application may pay special focus to the relationship between the electrical and EAF technologies, to optimize situations within the furnace [94]. A unique design for double star chopper cells unified power flow controller (DSCC-UPFC) is presented in this study which integrates a modular multilevel cascaded converter (MMCC) with a full-bridge inverter [95].…”

“…During recent years, flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices, which are based on power electronic converters, have been proposed to increase the steady-state performance of power systems, like enhancing the capacity of transmission lines, controlling real and reactive power flow, controlling loop-flow, load sharing among parallel corridors, regulating the network voltage, congestion management, and providing optimum power flow for economic power system operation [1,2]. The multi-level inverters (MLIs)-as popular power electronic converters-can be applied as FACTS devices.…”
