Analysis and Design of a High Voltage Flyback Converter with Resonant Elements

Abstract: This paper presents the operational characteristics of a high voltage flyback converter with resonant elements. In high voltage low power applications, the effect of a transformer's stray capacitance might be the most important factor that influences the overall performance of the circuit. A detailed mode analysis and the design procedure are presented in designing the high voltage flyback converter. To verify and confirm the validities of the presented analysis and design procedure, a computer simulation and … Show more

“…Thus it is difficult to design optimal converters with wide load ranges. Power converters with a variable switching frequency and the ZVS technique such as resonant converters [10]- [15] have been proposed to achieve ZVS turn-on or zero current switching (ZCS) turn-off for active switches. In a conventional series resonant converter, the output voltage cannot be properly regulated under the no-load condition due to its limited voltage gain.…”

“…1 is discussed. High voltage unidirectional flyback converter for a normal resistive load is analyzed in [12] without considering all parasitic elements in the flyback converter. The converter operation during the charge and the discharge modes including all parasitic elements is analyzed in detail in this paper.…”

“…DC-DC [1]- [9] converters with zero voltage switching (ZVS), have been proposed with advantages such as high frequency operation, ZVS or zero current switching (ZCS) switching and high circuit efficiency. However, the voltage stresses or current stresses in the resonant converters are much to high for high input voltage or current applications.…”
