Analysis and optimization of the stereo-system with a four-mirror adapter

Abstract: Stereo imaging is becoming an important diagnostic tool in many practical applications throughout the industries. In the diagnostic procedure two views are used to provide in-depth information of the observing object. The conventional two-synchronized-camera systems used in most applications, pose difficulty to people new to the applications, especially when off-the-shelf cameras have to be used. In this article, several commonly used single camera stereo systems are reviewed and studied. The stereo system wit… Show more

“…This principle has been successfully used before to study in three-dimensions the structure of gas flames, as well as the 3D trajectories and kinematics of particles and bubbles [19][20][21]. The geometry and the performance of the stereo adapter employed here have already been discussed in detail by Wang et al [22]. The camera was equipped with a 24 -70 mm zoom lens.…”

“…In the present paper, an improved four mirrors system adapter with a single camera has been employed as stereo system to measure simultaneously in-and out-of-plane displacements. Previous theoretical studies have been developed [20][21][22] and optimized by others authors [23]. Recently, Pankow et al [24] developed a method based in a four mirror system using DIC to analyze the images, highlighting accurate results.…”

“…The target image distortion is represented as the distortion on the feature points. To extend the measurement view, based on binocular view principle, a virtual dual‐view vision sensor optimized and calibrated by Xue et al is proposed. It avoids the cost of extra cameras and the circuits, which need to be designed for synchronization in dynamic measurements.…”
