Analysis and Simulation Performance of a Reverse Osmosis Plant in the Al-Maqal Port

Abstract: The Basrah province (southern of Iraq) was interested in establishing desalination plants to provide drinking water due to the high levels of salinity in its water resources. This work was carried out in order to evaluate and simulate the functionality of the reverse osmosis plant in the Al-Maqal port. From the field and laboratory measurement, this study concluded that the considered parameters of product water by reverse osmosis (RO) plant were within the Iraqi standard (IRS) limits. The calculation of opera… Show more

“…In semi-arid regions like Morocco, where reliance on surface water sources has been customary since the 1960s, the construction of dams has historically sustained drinking water and industrial needs (Mehanned et al, 2014). However, burgeoning population, climate change, and recurrent droughts have rendered these conventional water sources increasingly inadequate to meet the escalating demand, culminating in an alarming global water scarcity scenario (Yousif et al, 2022).…”

“…Life continuity all over the world is linked to water availability. Seas, oceans, lakes, rivers, groundwater and rainwater are the basic natural sources of water that are mainly used for human, animal, agricultural, industrial, and manufactural uses and other needs (Yaseen et al, 2019;Yousif et al, 2022). The river of Shatt Al-Arab is the dominant water source for all the residents in Basra city, one of the main governorates that is located in the south of Iraq.…”
