Analysis of Anharmonic Properties of Some Partially Covalent Crystals

Abstract

The anharmonic properties of silver, thallium, and copper halides are analysed by means of a new interionic potential model which incorporates the effects of the long-range Coulomb and threebody interactions and the short-range van der Waals (vdn') attraction and overlap repulsion extended up to the second-neighbour ions. The model potential is applied to investigate the thirdorder elastic constants and the pressure derivatives of second-order elastic constants of the crystals. Additively some thermodynamic and thermoelastic behaviours of these solids are calculated. The results agree fairly well with the available experimental data and show a consistent trend throughout.Die Anharmonizitiitseigenschaften von Silber-, Thallium-und Kupferhalogeniden werden mittels eines neuen Interionenpotentialmodells, das die Einflusse der weitreichenden Coulomb-und Dreikorperwechselwirkungen und der nahwirkenden van der Waals (vdW)-Anziehung und UberIappungsabstoBung bis zu den zweiten Ionennachbarn enthalt, analysiert. Das Modellpotential wird zur Untersuchung der elastischen Konstanten dritter Ordnung und der Druckableitungen der elastischen Konstanten zweiter Ordnung der Kristalle benutzt. Daneben werden einige thermodynarnische und thermoelastische GroBen dieser Festkorper berechnet. Die Ergebnisse stimmen verhaltnismLBig gut mit zur Verfugung stehenden experimentellen Daten iiberein und zeigen im ganzen einen einheitlichen Trend.
