Analysis of Baishuihe landslide influenced by the effects of reservoir water and rainfall

Abstract: Since the impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir in June 2003, a number of new landslides have occurred and existing landslides have been made worse. The 1,260 9 10 4 m 3 Baishuihe landslide, located at 56 km west of the Three Gorges Dam, began to deform more noticeably after the first impoundment in early July 2003. The sliding of the two blocks comprising the landslide, one an active block and the other a relatively stable block, became apparent after approximately 5 years of monitoring. Field recordings … Show more

“…The majority of the deformations occurred during the declination of the reservoir water level, and no large deformations were observed when the reservoir water level remains stable or increases. Similar observations were also made by previous studies [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. Due to the extensive deformation of the Hongyanzi landslide, a multiparameter monitoring program was conducted on the Hongyanzi landslide to advance the understanding on the deformation characters and its major influencing factors.…”

“…In this study, we chosen part of the upstream and downstream of Baishuihe landslide which is continuous deformed since the first impoundment of the Three Gorge Reservoir (TGR) in early July 2003 (Li et al 2010) as the prototype. More specifically, the 3D undistorted channel model was established based on the generalized Froude similarity.…”

“…Geological structures, as discontinuities, also can be access for water to flow inside the slope and affect the properties of soil [9]. Therefore, this paper aims to know the contribution of physical properties of soil, which is represented by its activities, and geological structures that develop at the site of research on the occurrence of the soil creep.…”
