Analysis of benzodiaza‐15‐crown‐5 ether derivative binding properties by potentiometric and optical methods

Abstract: This research concerns the analysis of the binding properties of benzodiaza‐15‐crown‐5 ether derivatives towards different metal ions (Mg(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Hg(II) and Ag(I)) in acetonitrile and water by potentiometric and optical methods. Benzodiaza‐15‐crown‐5 ether demonstrates high binding affinity towards Hg2+ (lg K11 = 12.7), whereas the stability constants of complexes with other studied cations varied from 3 to 6 logarithmic units. “…The metal ion selectivity is influenced by the nature, arrangement of donor atoms and also the ring size. [5] There is at present a need for the investigation of selective coordination properties in novel systems suitable for particular practical purposes. This paper presents the synthesis of a novel amide macrocycles 1-4 (Scheme 1), the potentiometric, 1 H-NMR, and X-ray structural analysis and the binding properties towards transition and heavy metal cations.…”

“…Because most of the applications of macrocycles are associated with their ability to form complexes with ions, the main goal in macrocyclic ligand design is to synthesize compounds that are able to discriminate between ions. The metal ion selectivity is influenced by the nature, arrangement of donor atoms and also the ring size . There is at present a need for the investigation of selective coordination properties in novel systems suitable for particular practical purposes.…”

“…The first one involves macrocy-clization of linear precursors, one of which bears an aryl group. [15][16][17][18] For instance, one of the general methods for the synthesis of N-phenyl azacrown compounds is the basepromoted condensation of N-aryldiethanolamines or their derivatives with oligoethylene glycols and their aza-or thia-analogs. Vogtle and Dix were the first who used such procedure [13,14] to obtain N-phenylaza-15(18)-crown-5(6)-ethers.…”
