Analysis of Booth Multiplier based Conventional and Short Word Length FIR Filter

Abstract: The optimized implantation of digital filters has remained one of the challenging tasks, for FPGA (FieldProgrammable Gate Array) based system designers, due to the involvement of very complex circuitry for multiplication. The multiplier consumes more recourse and hence results in less speed, being not the single step arithmetic operation. One way to carry out these implementations effectively is; to reduce the word length that will increase throughput in view of that. In a few decades, the SDM technique has b… Show more

“…Various SDM-based DSP applications for word length reduction and hence reducing the overall system complexity are reflected in the literature that includes but is not limited to simple arithmetic units [9][10][11], FIR filters (fully or partially transformed to single-bit) [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19], IIR filters [20][21][22], and some complex adaptive filter structures [23][24][25][26]. Other recent examples of SDM-based short word length systems include adaptive channel equalizers using a µ-less approach [27], Weiner filters [28], Matched filters [29], digital arithmetic units [30], smart sensor communications [31], correlation-less filters [32,33] and latest SDM-Based Image Processing [34].…”

“…Several earlier works have developed various controller designs. These developments are not limited to the use of classic methods, such as proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers [16] [17] [18], but also fuzzy logic control (FLC) [19], and model predictive controller (MPC) [20] [21]. Nevertheless, PID controller is still the most employed of several controller designs due to its convenience [22].…”

“…The results prove that GA-based PID was smoother and more dependable than NN-based PID. Unlike in [16], ACC controller design uses Ziegler-Nichols's method to gain the optimum parameter. In [17], an improved PID controller was used to improve driving stability and comfort.…”

“…Reprogrammable hardware attracted a growing interest of researchers for the obtainment of enormous gain in speed and saving of energy besides its capability to be reprogrammed to desired application or functionality requirements after deployment [13][14][15][16]. The ease of providing parallel processing environment makes FPGA a high performance computing hardware for real-time processing of multichannel (multi-input, multi-output) systems [17], [18].…”
