Analysis of Combination Algorithm Data Encryption Standard (DES) and Blum-Blum-Shub (BBS)

Abstract: Data Encryption Standard (DES) has a weakness in the key that is vulnerable to security threats, but it is quite popular to use because of the fast encryption and decryption process. Combining the DES algorithm with the Pseudo-random number generator Blum-Blum-Shub (BBS) in generating external keys in the encryption and decryption process of messages, produces a unique key and a good level of security. The longer the selected key and seed, the higher the security level of the DES encryption and decryption key.… Show more

“…Data Encryption Standard (i.e., DES) is an obsolete symmetric key encryption technique [12]. It was implemented by government entities in 1977 to safeguard sensitive information and was officially decommissioned in 2005 [13,14].The initial specification was developed by IBM's researchers in the early 1970s.…”

“…The 64 DES cipher texts and variable bits differ by 32 bits while encrypting accounting data. Laia et al [8] suggested the successful operation of the DES algorithm and the Blum-Blum-Shub (BBS) algorithm to encrypt and decrypt messages to improve their security. Xing et al [9] suggested testing serial AES and DES code on their experimental platform through task-based evaluations.…”

“…Distributed storage is also concerned about key and storage size, reliability, accessibility, and confidentiality. Laia et al [18] presented Blum-Blum-Shub (BBS) as an external key generator in the Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm. The approach relies on blockbased encryption, which requires 56 bits of key size and is vulnerable to security threats.…”
