Analysis of congested schedule on competition external load in field hockey. [Análisis de la carga externa de competición en un periodo de congestión en hockey hierba].

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the variation in players' physical demands profile during a major national men field hockey tournament which consisted of 3 matches on consecutive days. Ten Spanish National League hockey players participated in the study (age: 24.2 ± 2.6 years; body mass: 74.2 ± 5.7 kg; height 176.8 ± 5.1 cm). “…Significant associations were found between CMJ, muscle soreness, stress, sleep quality and fatigue after the last match of the championship in the U16 category. To date, numerous studies have shown how these variables directly influence the player's performance and the possibility of suffering an injury (Huggins et al, 2019;Romero-Moraleda et al, 2020). However, the context in which this study is carried out shows how the increase in fatigue, muscle soreness and stress were significantly more relevant after the three matches were played.…”

“…In comparison, six variables explained 80.3%, 79.2%, and 76.6% of each field position player's performance for backs, midfielders, and forwards, respectively. These results are based on different international players´ performance between a team as a whole and each player based on their field position (Delves, Bahnisch, Ball, & Duthie, 2019;McGuinness, Malone, Hughes, Collins, & Passmore, 2019;McGuinness, Malone, Petrakos, et al, 2019;Morencos et al, 2019;Romero-Moraleda, Morencos, Torres, & Casamichana, 2020). Hence, overall suggestions highlight that strength and conditioning specialists should design training tasks in which a high degree of aerobic endurance is combined with considerable strength and power to perform highintensity short-term efforts such as accelerations and decelerations.…”
