Analysis of Drilling of Coir Fiber-Reinforced Polyester Composites Using Multifaceted Drill Bit

Abstract: Composite materials are continuously replacing the conventional materials and alloys owing to their weight reduction. Biodegradable fiber-reinforced composite materials are one of the prime attractions to the researcher due to their easy availability and low cost. During drilling of these Natural Fiber Reinforced Plastic composites (NFRP), delamination and surface roughness are the problems encountered, which are to be minimized to get better output by adopting different cutting conditions and tools. “…Te report suggests that adding 14% Bz as reinforcement in PLA matrix will yield a proper dispersion composite flament for the 3D printed application. Here, the agglomeration is a difcult task with increased reinforcement [26]. Bz with less than 18% will reduce the mechanical property of the samples, and it was reported from the earlier study, with the varied weight percentage of Bz of 6, 10, 14, and 18 [27].…”

“…The drilling properties have been improved by the treated coir fiber used in the polyester composite [13]. The delamination and surface roughness of coir-fiber-reinforced polyester composite materials during the drilling processes have been minimized by optimizing the process parameters [14]. The delamination factor of coir-fiber polyester composite is comparatively lower than that of glass-fiber polyester composite material [15].…”
