Analysis of dynamic pull-in voltage of a graphene MEMS model

Abstract: Bifurcation analysis of dynamic pull-in for a lumped mass model is presented. The restoring force of the spring is derived based on the nonlinear constitutive stress-strain law and the driving force of the mass attached to the spring is based on the electrostatic Coulomb force, respectively. The analysis is performed on the resulting nonlinear spring-mass equation with initial conditions. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions are derived analytically and illustrated num… Show more

“…For the nonlinear case, considering both Eqs. (24) and (26), dV∕df = 0 leads to a forth-order equation in which, f cr and V Pull in cannot be expressed as a closed form relation. But for the studied case in Table 1…”

“…In general, the dynamic pull-in requires a lower voltage to be triggered compared to the static pull-in threshold, see Flores; 6 Zhang. 4 Mathematical analysis of the one-degree-offreedom lumped parameter model for an electrostatically actuated beam has been provided in our previous works, see Skrzypacz; 7 Omarov. 8 It is well known in physics and engineering that comparing with electrostatic force the magnetic force stated in Ampe´re's law is much larger and therefore in many applications using it as the actuating force has advantages as stated and discussed in Lobato-Dauzier, 9 Imai and Tsukioka, 10 and Xingdong.…”

“…The preliminary results for the static pull-in voltage have been stated in [12] by considering the quadratic stress-strain equation which is validated to be important for graphene with applications in MEMS. Exact conditions for the dynamic pull-in were discussed in [11]. However, the shortcoming of aforementioned paper is that it provides condition for mass lumped parameters only in the case of zero initial conditions.…”
