Analysis of EEG Characteristics of Drivers at the Entrance and Exit of an Undersea Tunnel and Research on Driving Safety

Abstract: To study the influence of illumination and longitudinal slope at the entrance and exit of an undersea tunnel on driver EEG characteristics, a real vehicle experiment was performed with the Jiaozhou Bay Undersea Tunnel. The experimental data of a driver’s real vehicle experiment were collected using an illuminance meter, EEG instrument, video recorder and other experimental equipment. The EEG power spectrum was classified according to frequency, the difference between the EEG power spectrum at the entrance and … Show more

“…The evaluation and optimization of traffic safety facilities is one of the important means by which to solve the safety problem of underground interchanges (UIs), which is of great significance to reduce the severity of accidents, eliminate all kinds of horizontal and longitudinal interference and provide line of sight guidance [1,2]. In the process of driving, the information collected through vision accounts for the vast majority of cues, but since it is affected by the light environment inside and outside the entrance, the driver will encounter visual obstacles after entering the tunnel, affecting driving safety [3,4]. Therefore, the deceleration section and sign setting at the hole is particularly important, as it can guide drivers to slow down and help them better adapt to the environment inside and outside the hole [5].…”

“…Despite its advantages, EEG biometrics also has its intrinsic problems: (1) large data size, and (2) sensitivity of EEG signals to environmental conditions [59,60]. Projection of high-dimensional data into a lower-dimensional space is proposed in the literature to overcome the large data size problem [59].…”

“…With the acceleration of expressway construction and the increase of traffic mileage, expressway traffic accidents are also becoming more and more frequent, and the types of causes are becoming more and more complex, bringing incalculable economic problems and emotional burdens to society and families [1][2][3]. The most important factor of expressway safety management is to predict the risk of traffic accidents that may occur in a certain period of time in the future according to the current traffic state of the expressway, the core of which is to improve the accuracy of prediction and expand the prediction period [4,5].…”
