Abstract:In December 2022, the United States (US) experienced an extreme cold event. Its duration was 5 days, and it ranked third in intensity (−9.16 °C) during the period from 1979 to 2022. During the Early Stage (12–16 December), the surface air temperature (SAT) anomaly peaked at 2.98 °C. In the Development Stage (17–21 December), cold air moved towards North America (NA).
