Abstract: IntroductionSevere fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV), which has a high fatality rate. This disease has become increasingly prevalent in recent years in Jiangsu province, with a noticeable rise in its incidence. Notably, fatal cases have also been increasing. Our study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and risk factors associated with the fatal cases of SFTS in Jiangsu province from 2011 to September 2022.MethodsA re… Show more

“…Most fatal cases of rickettsiosis and SFTS occurred in elderly people [2,4]. An older age was a critical risk factor for fatality due to SFTS [28,29]. For healthcare in these communities, tick-borne infections should be one of the differential diagnoses for febrile elderly outpatients.…”

“…As of 2019, 13824 laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported across 25 provinces in China ( 10 ). Despite a decrease from 30% in the early stages due to improved understanding, the case fatality rate remains high at 6.1%-21.8% ( 11 , 12 ), several studies showed the efficiency of favipiravir in treating SFTS patients ( 13 , 14 ). Timely recognition and assessment of patients with severe conditions, providing sufficient and comprehensive supportive measures, are crucial for improving outcomes in individuals with SFTS.…”
