Analysis of floral transcription factors from Lycoris longituba

Abstract: Transcription factors (TFs) are proteins that bind to specific promoter regions of their target genes and regulate gene transcription. Many of these factors have been found to influence flowering. Lycoris longituba exhibits a great deal of diversity in flower color and flower form, making it a suitable model for the study of floral development. We have identified 338 putative TFs from more than thirty thousand ESTs sequenced from the floral tissue of L. longituba, and validated them using real-time RT-PCR. Fif… Show more

“…Two of the genes most closely related to AtqMADS1 in Fig. 2d (Lyl-MADS9 and LylMADS15) from Lycoris longituba were also shown to increase in expression as flowers matured, however, individual floral tissues were not tested (He et al 2010b). The highly specific and strong expression of a SEPALLATA-like gene agrees with their proposed biological function of interaction with other MADS-box proteins ).…”

“…Sequences that resulted in peptides longer than 50 amino acids were used to predict TFs. TF prediction was carried out according to He et al 57 with some modifications. The HMM profiles of 75 TF families were downloaded from the Drosophila Transcription Factor Database (http://www.flytf.org/) and PFAM 58.…”

“…So far, the number of ESTs that are available from Lycoris is less than 9,000. Recently, by sequencing clones from three non-normalized cDNA libraries, 32,521 EST sequences were obtained and most of them were used for floral transcription factors prediction from Lycoris longituba [64]. Therefore, this transcriptome dataset provides a useful resource for future analyses of genes related to Amaryllidaceae alkaloids synthesis.…”

“…Additionally, to date, there are only less than 9,000 ESTs available for Lycoris. And limited by the availability of genomic information, studies of Lycoris have mainly focused on karyotypes analysis [1,3,58,59], morphology [60], medicine [11,[13][14][15], and molecular aspect [2,[61][62][63][64]. Hence, determination of the genetic pathways and specific genes involved in Amaryllidaceae alkaloids biosynthesis and some other aspects of Lycoris could be beneficial for humans and enrich our knowledge and understanding of functional genomics and biological research.…”
