Analysis of gravity data for extracting structural features of the northern region of the Central Indian Ridge

Abstract: In this study, structural lineaments and fracture zones of the northern region of the Central Indian Ridge have been determined using gravity data from XGM2019e_2159 global gravity model. In this scope, firstly, the edge detection performances of the gradient amplitude of the tilt angle (THDR), theta map (TM), improved local phase (ILP), and improved logistic (IL) methods have been evaluated on synthetic examples. The results show that the IL method effectively avoids false edges and produces high-resolution e… Show more

“…These data were used to map and model anomalies to identify anticline oil traps, salt domes, and structural conditions in the Qeshm area. This study analyzed and processed 78765 gravitational assessment stations (Adeyemo et al, 2022;Doulati Ardejani et al, 2011;Hosseini et al, 2013;Hosseini et al, 2014;Pham & Prasad, 2023). The gravitational survey operation of the eastern areas of Qeshm island and its northern coasts from Sarkhun to Laitdan has been carried out in a region with an area of 120*100 square kilometers between the longitudes of 540-650 kilometers east and the latitudes of 560-640 kilometers north.…”

“…Lineaments are basically geological structures that represent faults, joints, lithological contacts, and shear zones which are important locations for gathering data in regional geological and tectonic investigations. Edge detection algorithms applied to gravity data are particularly effective for mapping linear features and identifying the boundaries of a geological structure [80][81][82][83][84]. The TAHG and FSED edge detection methods were applied to the residual gravity anomaly map of the Denizli region to determine lineaments.…”

“…Pham et al (2020Pham et al ( , 2021c introduced the improved logistic function and softsign function to increase the resolution of the edges. Eldosouky et al (2020), Pham and Prasad (2023) reviewed the effectiveness of the filters in terms of their precision on the detection of borders of magnetic sources on both observed and theoretical data. Other improved enhancement operations like the spectral moments (Sun et al, 2016), TAHG (Ferreira et al, 2013), LTHG (Pham et al, 2019), and FSED (Oksum et al, 2021), can reveal lineaments of different anomalies.…”
