Analysis of High Voltage Transmission Equipment Reliability Performance

Abstract

The Composite System Reliability Working Group (CSRWG) of The Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP) and its predecessors have collected outage data for MAPP bulk transmission equipment of 230 kV and higher since 1977. Poolwide MAPP-United States (MAPP-US) performance statistics are computed and reported annually. These statistics can be used by utilities in different applications in areas related to system performance, operations, maintenance and planning. This paper presents features of the MAPP transmission outage data collection system, selected outage statistics for the 1991-2000 period and applications of outage performance statistics by MAPP utilities.Index Terms-Mid-Continent Area Power Pool, bulk power system, transmission equipment, outage data collection scheme, performance reporting.
